RunningNerds Inaugural 5K in West Midtown

RunningNerds, an Atlanta-based health education outreach that provides a social forum, service, and resource for the contemporary running community, is hosting its inaugural 5K on Saturday, April 14, 2012 beginning at 7:45 a.m. Starting and finishing in West Midtown at the Howard School Campus, 5K first timers and marathon enthusiasts alike are invited to explore a scenic 3.1-mile route through this burgeoning neighborhood followed by a fun-filled day of giveaways, awards, and more. To get everyone in the spirit, the RunningNerds 5K will have pre-registration activities and warm up opportunities with Desiree Nathanson Fitness. Encouraging novice runners to tackle their first 5K, RunningNerds founder Tes Sobomehin is giving all first-timers a My First 5K! Award for participating. Following the 5K, special awards will be given for the top finishers and participants will be treated to a race shirt and more than 100+ giveaways from local sponsors including 5 Seasons Brewing Company Westside, The Real Chow Baby, Yoforia, Smoothie King, Massage Envy Spa, Urban Grind, Big Peach Running Company, Atlanta Rocks!, A. Danielle Photography, Zulu Racing, Fit Neighborhood, Atlantic Station, Urban Grind, Vita Coco, and many more.

RunningNerds 5K benefits the Howard School, Green Sneakers Atlanta and RunningNerds non-profit that supports health, fitness and educational initiatives. Participants and spectators are encouraged to bring their gently used sneakers to the 5K, which we will be donated the Green Sneakers Atlanta Earth Day Drive that has a goal of collecting 3000 pairs of sneakers for the disadvantaged.

Leading up to the 5K, the RunningNerds team is also going to host clinics, group runs and social forum opportunities.  The RunningNerds 5K will Start/Finish at the Howard School Campus, 1192 Foster Street NW, Atlanta.
