Jackets' Fans Invited to TechTown, but Don't Steal Anything

Atlantic Station again transforms into TechTown with pep rallies and game day shuttles for Georgia Tech home football games this season.

Georgia Tech dropped a heartbreaker Monday night at Virginia Tech, but apparently didn’t come home empty handed following its 20-17 overtime loss.

A Facebook group called "Only at Tech," which is not affiliated with the school, posted a photo Monday afternoon of the sign outside Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium with a missing “T.”

A caption alongside read, "Lane S adium. Only a ech."

It’s long been a tradition for Tech students to swipe the “T” from the Tech Tower on campus and the prank has expanding elsewhere through the years, as well.

The Facebook group has since removed the picture, which can still be viewed here, and added the following post:

"Only at Tech has no official affiliation with Georgia Tech. We've been around for a few years and post things we see online that connect with Tech culture. We do not speak for the university or represent the fanbase as a whole. It seems a lot of folks outside of Tech (including the press) are making that assumption, so we wanted to clarify that right away.

Our last post created a bit of a stir. For a while, it seemed like the right thing to do was leave the post up and let our fans have the debate on how far our "stealing the T" tradition should go. We don't want to steer our culture - we simply want to reflect it.

Unfortunately, we've now received some other submissions this week of Ts missing from other signs. We're happy to acknowledge and post something that many of us see as a tradition, but we don't want exposure on Only at Tech to be a reason for people to vandalize signs. What started as a joke can easily get out of hand if we encourage it. We won't be posting the other photos we received this week, and we've taken the last post down as well.

We'll be back to our regularly scheduled posts about nerdy RC helicopters and cupcakes shortly."

Thievery won’t be condoned, but Georgia Tech football fans are invited to come out this season for Friday Night Fan Fests and game day shuttle service at Atlantic Station. The mixed-use development in Midtown has partnered with Georgia Tech Athletics for the second year to bring back the popular events that unite alumni, students and fans as they cheer on the Yellow Jackets.

Tech plays four straight Saturdays at Bobby Dodd Stadium beginning with Saturday’s non-conference game against Presbyterian.

On Friday nights before home games, Atlantic Station will be transformed into TechTown for Friday Night Fan Fest, which are pep rallies featuring the Yellow Jacket marching band, everyone’s favorite mascot Buzz, Yellow Jacket cheerleaders, dance team and appearances by The Ramblin’ Wreck. The evening culminates with live music from some of Atlanta’s favorite local bands. The events last from 7 to 10 p.m. in Central Park, with a shuttle running to and from campus from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

On game day Saturdays, fans can take advantage of plentiful parking in Atlantic Station, and catch the Stinger Shuttle to and from the game. The shuttle will run a continuous loop beginning 2 1/2 hours before kick-off and 1 1/2 hours after the game has ended. The shuttle will pick up fans on East District Street in front of Z Gallerie, and will drop off at Third Street and Spring Streetnear Bobby Dodd Stadium. Fans can reserve space for RV parking through the Atlantic Station concierge.

This year, fans can enjoy the addition of Meehan’s Public House and Yard House at Atlantic Station, which both offer big-screen televisions forviewing the games and wide selections of food and drinks. Georgia Tech students and faculty can also take advantage of discounts around Atlantic Station.

Here’s the lineup of Saturday Georgia Tech home football games this year:

9/22 vs. Miami

9/29 vs. Middle Tennessee State
