Still time to register for Saturday's Atlanta BeltLine Eastside 10K

The weather looks to be great for the event that is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants.

The forecast for this Saturday is for plenty of sun and temps in the mid-60s. Sounds like perfect weather for a scenic run as the Atlanta BeltLine Running Series will hold the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside 10K on Dec. 1.

Runners will have a chance to take to the new Eastside Trail, winding through the Inman Park, Midtown, Old Fourth Ward, Poncey-Highland, and Virginia Highland neighborhoods. This is the first official walk or run on the recently opened Eastside Trail. Runners will also pass by the new Historic Fourth Ward Park and Skate Park, see skyline views of downtown and Midtown Atlanta, travel an off-road stretch of the Atlanta BeltLine corridor, and go through Piedmont Park.

Strollers and dogs are permitted for the 10 a.m. race that begins and ends at the Stove Works, located at112 Krog Street.

The run takes place on the same day as the SEC Championship Game at the Georgia Dome and a “tailgate challenge” encourages college football fans to represent their schools and enjoy a rigorous run before heading into the evening’s football programming. Teams are forming quickly, including representatives from Agnes Scott University, Auburn University, Georgia State University, Georgia College and State University, Kansas State University, University of Georgia, and Vanderbilt University, with more to come.

There will also be a “neighborhood challenge,” in which neighborhood associations compete for a $1,000 cash purse to be awarded to the fastest, largest, and most spirited neighborhood teams.

Participants are encouraged to register by Wednesday, Nov. 28, when registration will increase from $38 to $45. Proceeds benefit the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership.

The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership is a non-profit organization committed to raising funds from private and philanthropic sources to support the Atlanta BeltLine; working with neighborhoods, community organizations, faith organizations, businesses and other groups to raise general awareness and broad-based support for the Atlanta BeltLine; and serving as a catalyst to mobilize resources to address the social concerns raised by new development around the Atlanta BeltLine.

More than 1,000 participants are expected at Saturday's event and runners are encouraged to pick up their race number on Friday between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. at West Stride specialty running store located at 3517 Northside Parkway.
