Yellow Jackets, Grey Knights Score Saturday Victories

Georgia Tech registers first win of year in easy fashion at home while Grady High hits the road to stay unbeaten.

It was a victorious football Saturday for Midtown schools Saturday as both Georgia Tech and cruised to double-digit victories.

The Grey Knights from Grady hit the road to score a 39-29 win* over North Clayton. Now 2-0 on the year, the Grey Knights continue out-of-region play when they play host to Riverdale on Friday, Sept. 14.

As for the Yellow Jackets, they rebounded from a frustartiing 20-17 overtime Labor Day loss at Virginia Tech to rout overmatched Presbyterian (smallest school in Division I with an enrollment of 1,200) by a 59-3 final.

We are looking for athletes, coaches, parents, booster club members and fans who are ready, willing and able to share their team spirit on Patch. News about any team -- high school, middle school, rec teams, ALTA, etc. -- is welcome! For example, a Sunday search for the Grady-North Clayton final produced three different finals from four different sources (the 39-29 final was cited twice, and all four finals indicated GHS won the game). Tech's Saturday night game at Bobby Dodd Stadium was never in doubt as Zach Laskey blasted up the middle for a 56-yard score on Tech’s first possession and the Jackets never looked back from there.

Tech reached the end zone seven times and booted a field goal in its first 13 drives on way to evening its season record to 1-1. Read more game coverage here and see the video highlights that accompany this piece.

Tech, though, is 0-1 in ACC action and the next two Saturdays the Jackets will entertain a pair of conference rivals who helped take the sting out of last year’s fast and furious start. After six wins to open the 2011 season, the Jackets fell in back-to-back games at Virginia and Miami, Fla., en route to an 8-5 season.

Virginia comes to historic Grant Field on Saturday, Sept. 15 for a 3:30 p.m. kick while Miami pays a visit to Atlanta the following weekend.
