The weeklong fundraiser was developed in memory of longtime St. Jude patient Nicholas "Nicky" Mailliard who lost a long battle with brain cancer in February 2005. The nephew of one of RA Sushi’s original founders, Nicky held a special place in the hearts of RA associates throughout the organization. The restaurant developed this annual benefit to honor Nicky and further support St. Jude’s mission, where no family ever pays St. Jude for anything.

"Nicky’s Week is RA Sushi’s biggest event of the year,” Scott Kilpatrick, co-founder and vice president of RA Sushi, said in a release. “Our entire team is dedicated to making the fundraiser a huge success so that we can raise as much money as possible for St. Jude. Surpassing our goal of $1 million raised for St. Jude this year shows the dedication of our staff and the amazing support of the community.”
