Rain Threatens to Wash Out Some Fourth of July Fun

If you know of a scheduled event that has changed plans due to the weather, share the info here at Patch and we'll help get the word out.

Mother Nature is priming us for a soggy Independence Day and that could play havoc on countless outdoor fireworks displays, parades, cookouts, concerts and more in the metro Atlanta area.

Forecasters say rain is on the way Tuesday and it could be here to stay for much of the week. A flash flood watch is in effect from Wednesday at 8 a.m. until Friday at the same time.

According to the National Weather Service, “very heavy rainfall is expected Tuesday through Friday” with the afternoons and evenings experiencing possible strong to severe storms.

The chance for rain jumps from 40 percent Tuesday, to 80 percent Wednesday and then 100 percent on Thursday, July 4th.

The threat of severe weather could lead to the postponement or cancellation of outdoor festivities associated with the national holiday.

But the wet stuff won’t stop most of the 60,000 runners set to participate in Thursday’s AJC Peachtree Road Race. A list of road race street closures in Buckhead and Midtown can be found here.

And regardless of the weather, we want to see photos and videos of how you spent your July 4th with your family, friends and others in the community!
