Landscaping love for McClatchey Park

Park Pride and the Ansley Park Beautification Foundation team up to tackle erosion issue.

Thanks in part to a $1,000 matching micro grant from Park Pride, the Ansley Park Beautification Foundation was able to apply some much needed TLC to Ansley Park’s McClatchey Park late last year.

“We had a bank by the tennis courts that was badly eroding,’’ said Sylvia Attkisson of Sylvia Attkisson Landscape Design. “The curb was about to fall down the hill.”

Attkisson, who donated her time to the project, oversaw an effort that has significantly slowed the current erosion in the area. Junipers were planted on the bank and the already in place irrigation system was extended to help make sure the plants could be watered until they could be firmly established.

The bank was also weeded between the street and the steps leading down into the playground. The walkway along the street was cleared and wood chips on the path were installed to give better and safer access to the playground from Park Lane.

Some of the funds also used on the project came from the Friends of McClatchey Park Foundation. “It was a beautifully executed project that looks wonderful now,’’ Attkisson said.
