Owen Wilson: Piedmont Park is 'fantastic'

Actor seeks out the Piedmont Park Conservancy's volunteer manager Tuesday to express how impressed he was during his initial visit to the park

As he does many days, Eli Dickerson was assisting volunteers at Piedmont Park on Tuesday.

As Manager for Volunteer Services for the Piedmont Park Conservancy (PPC), Dickerson was putting away tools near Magnolia Hall when he was approached by a first-time visitor to the park.

“He said he was a here a few years ago in Buckhead, but now he was in Midtown and getting a whole different view of the city,’’ Dickerson said.

The ‘he’ turned out to be actor Owen Wison, who was biking along solo through the park before seeking out the PPC employee. Wilson, who has recently been spotted dining at Midtown’s Ecco, is in town filming “The Internship” with his buddy Vince Vaughn.

Two years ago, Wilson was in Atlanta and the Buckhead area shooting “Hall Pass.” He took a hall pass from “The Internship” filming on 9th Street Tuesday for a ride through the park.

“He was really nice,’’ said Dickerson. “He said the park was fantastic and remarked that how you keep up a park says a lot about a city.”

Wilson even indicated he would like to donate to the PPC, the nonprofit organization that works with the City of Atlanta in a nationally recognized example of a successful public/private partnership.

And you can, too, as it's easier than ever to donate your time and energy to Atlanta’s premier greenspace.
