The fast-charger joins three existing standard charging units at the Atlantic Station charging station located on 17th Street near the Millennium Gate. The charging station is partially powered by overhead solar panels and is available at no cost to the public.

“To date about 17,000 pounds of CO2  have been saved by usage at our charging station,” John Gilb, principal at CBRE Global Investors, said in a press release. “Atlantic Station is the perfect spot for the first public fast charging unit. It is convenient to all of Midtown.”

Atlanta has become the top-selling market for the all-electric Nissan LEAF, outperforming West Coast markets like San Francisco and Seattle. Because of this, Nissan donated the new fast charging unit, which features the CHAdeMO charging standard and can charge a Nissan LEAF from empty to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes.

“The increasing availability of EV chargers – particularly fast chargers in visible places like Atlantic Station – will continue to build range confidence for LEAF drivers and help us open more consumers’ eyes to how an all-electric car can meet their daily needs,” Brendan Jones, director of Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy at Nissan, said in the release. “This is the first of many EV fast chargers coming to Atlanta in the very near future."
