This is the 10th annual Out of the Darkness Walk that will be dedicated to Georgian teens who have died by suicide in recent years. The large group walk will include cheerleaders, bands and dancers from metro Atlanta’s high schools as well as live local music by The Digits and Wesley Cook, appearances by Atlanta’s pro-sport mascots and a dove release.
According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), "nationally, every 13.7 minutes someone takes his/her own life, making suicide the 100h leading cause of death in America and the second leading cause of death for U.S. youth."
AFSP says that in Georgia alone, over 1000 people die by suicide each year which surpasses the homicide rate!
