For years the space at the base of the Marriott Residence Inn Midtown has been home to bars. The current occupant, Charlie G's 11th St. Pub, had the original Vortex as its immediate predecessor, and before that was Stang's. The interior has changed little, though the lack of Vortex-era bric-a-brac gives the narrow corner space a roomier feel. The bar still has a split-level upstairs, where there is a big-screen TV. Downstairs, patrons chat over beers and other beverages and watch sports on smaller TVs suspended behind the bar. Lacking the room for live performers, Charlie G's relies on a jukebox.
