<p>Piedmont Park Conservancy's mission is "to enhance and preserve Piedmont Park as a vital urban green space and as a cultural and recreational resource that enhances the quality of life for all Atlantans." The nonprofit organizaiton was founded in 1989 to assist the city of Atlanta in maintaining and enhancing Piedmont Park, a public gathering space for more than 100 years. Since that time, the conservancy has raised and invested more than $60 million to beautify, secure and expand the park, as well as add new programs. The organization manages more than 90 percent of the park's daily maintenance and security.</p>
<p>The conservancy has paid for a host of new amenities to the park, including a new pool and bathhouse in 2009, and a new dog park in 2010. The organization currently is working on constructing and raising money for a 53-acre expansion.</p> <p>The conservancy offers programs during the year, including the Green Market, a fresh produce market on Saturday mornings from May to December; bird walks with the Atlanta Audubon Society; historical tours; sports at the Active Oval; and a variety of special programs and workshops. </p> <p>The organization rents to the public three park buildings: Magnolia Hall and lawn, Dockside and Greystone.
