YES! Doctors agree it should be legal. Science supports legality. Citizens support legalization.Read More Many politicians support it (most do privately). It's way beyond time that we simply legalize this plant which has been proven to have numerous medical benefits and as well has proven to be SAFER than either Alcohol or Tobacco. It is the #1 cash crop in the US and has an estimated $585M in retail sales in GA annually (and growing). Yet it's untaxed and unregulated. It's time we legislate and regulate this plant and create jobs, income, industry and commerce around it instead of wasting money on the continued failed prohibition. You literally could not throw enough money or people at this issue to completely eradicate it. Stop wasting money and start making it! If you support the prohibition of cannabis, you are either willfully ignorant or willfully evil.

Let's see what Dave will do to try to wiggle out of answering them this time.".........FIRST time they have been posted. I don't discuss anything with people incapable of remembering what they post and are too bigoted to carry on a discussion. But, I had one thing correct, you can't keep your word even for a few minutes.

"Frank Jones April 24, 2014 at 07:16 PM"........You are somewhat correct. The personRead More would not be exempt from prosecution but could use the defense of himself or otters as a legitimate defense strategy...even if he was a felon. Even felons have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Paul Broun, one of the most staunchly conservative candidates in Georgia's Senate election, is confident he can pull through despite struggles in polling and money.

@jonathan Maquire: Too bad you didn't this one through. I think you are misusing the wordRead More "principled" when you should be using "stubborn" or even "prejudiced". This congressman denies science big time and the logical result of that will lead to the death of the human race and most of the animal species on earth. Principle has nothing to do with this. This man shouldn't represent Georgia in any office of government.

Jonathan Maguire: A man of principle does not pimp his Messiah for political gain; nor does heRead More betray The Promise of Philadelphia for an ancient scroll.
TheSkalawag April 17, 2014 at 12:01 pm
Jonathan Maguire I think you know exactly what jMichael and Kathy are saying. --- You are just usingRead More the right-wing ploy of feigning to not understand so that you can appear as though you are trying to being reasonable. I believe you know full well what Rep. Broun's position on the issues are. --- There is no need to " figure out what he stands for" he has made that abundantly clear. --- Determining whether or not "he is a man of principle" depends on whether or not one agrees with HIS fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for HIS system of belief or behavior. And since you are apparently coming to his defense it would seem that YOU do.

I'm not a Republican nor am I a Democrat. I have no political party affiliation. I do not own aRead More television; therefore, the news media has no effect on my thinking. The best government is self government. You should resist judging people and jumping to wild assumptions.

My apologies, David. Your FOX-chanted slogan threw me off. Now please respond to the substance ofRead More my comment. How does your slogan match up with the data?
David Montgomery April 19, 2014 at 05:22 pm
A large faction of voters that voted the way they did in the most recent presidential election didRead More so because they were and are looking for some form of government handout. Many exit polls showed this time and time again. Many people don't want to work today; they want someone else to take care of them such as their government. That is the current state of our country. When you rely on government, you lose. Just ask any Hurricane Katrina survivor. No need to reply to me. Have a Happy Easter.

Octo Slash April 15, 2014 at 08:34 am
Okay...how about 'ex-convict'? Or 'temporarily wayward downtrodden societal misfortunate'? IsRead More that sweet and harmless enough? For god's sake let's remove any and all stigma from those convicted of felonious crimes against the innocent. We wouldn't want them to be uncomfortable at work.
Richard "the Equalizer" Pellegrino April 15, 2014 at 12:04 pm
I get your point Octo but still don't like labels as such....who is to say that someone convicted ofRead More a felony but doesn't do any time in prison is not a "convict" so it sets up an artificial class of people that somehow someone who does time is worse or has committed a worse crime than someone who doesn't (because we know there is great inequity in the justice system when it comes to race and class). I prefer not to judge folk once they have already been judged and done their time or punishment by attaching a label.

"Si vis pacem, para bellum" No matter the topic, the world is full of armchairRead More quarterbacks. Those who sit around after the game, with all of the facts about the conflict now known, saying with great certainty how clearly they would have known the path to peace and how stupid everyone in the conflicts were for doing things the way they were done. Armchair quarterbacks or not, it is plain foolishness to think that every person has the same core motivations, morals, etc. There is nothing more dangerous than to believe that every human prefers peach and resolution. This is why appeasement didn't work with Hitler. Many thought that we could negotiate with him, or control him by trying to become his friend. Dictators rarely care about what others think of them. When there is a fire raging through a forest, sometimes more fire is used to battle the fire (controlled burns) to stop the spread of the fire. To say that America was/is a warmongering nation is stupidity. A man doesn't run towards conflict, but he most certainly doesn't run from it either. In any given war, had we turned our soft fleshy side towards our enemy, we would have only emboldened them, allowing them to continue to grow and get stronger. Sometimes as much as you do not want to fight, sometimes fighting is required. A bully cannot be reasoned with. Any kids who has ever been bullied knows this fact. You stand your ground and fight so the bully knows that from this day forward you will not be an easy target. He knows that he will always be met with a fight. This President has destroyed America. Our foreign policy issues exist due to our perceived weakness. More people will die due to our weakness than if we had maintained our strength, even if that meant a skirmish.

Review-libya holding Americans hostage while under presidency of carter, lots ofRead More talking/negotiating, result-hostages beaten, etc. Ronald Reagan sworn in as President, the American hostages are released...differences in the leadership persuaded the terrorists to release the hostages. Current leadership and carter have alot in common. There will be a world power. And whomever the world power is will use their military to achieve their goals. Current pres. is decreasing our defense and military at a rapid rate, while Russia and China increases theirs and meet often to discuss their common goals. (read 'dreams FROM my father' by current pres to understand his dreams/goals for America watch 'obamas america 2016' & note when the producer started this documentary he was a fan of obama, if you want to understand why obama is chipping away at the sovereignty of America as well as our ability to defend ourselves...) poor old carter means well and probably really believes peace can be achieved through talk....

They can pass the "Slow Poke Bill" immediately but not a bill that can benefit some ofRead More those suffering from a medical condition. As a cancer patient who is reading more research on how cannabis derivatives can help myself as well as others with different chronic or as in my case terminal conditions I find it appalling this bill did not pass on the first go around. Some are citing political maneuvering by a representative from Buford that caused it to stall in the Senate. If this is true I hope no one in her circle of friends or family ever is afflicted with any of these conditions. she should be ashamed of resorting to these tactics and needs to NOT be reelected. Unfortunately, most politicians have no shame and really don't serve the people well who elected them. Time for our voting power to speak for us and not put people back in office who don't support the will of the people.

Perhaps once traffic reorients itself, the timing of the ramp light on SM can be adjusted to remove that delay. Also, there may not be room for a 4th lane! Working with juvenile offenders and social services for the past 21 years, I can tell you thatRead More social services for children and the juvenile justice system are two of the most neglected services most states have. I'm glad to see that we have a governor that is giving attention to these areas. If we want to fix what ails society, start young and catch them while they have a chance to start over with better skills and a new outlook on life. I have several stories of kids whose families and themselves got it turned around before they reached adulthood due to volunteer services and grants from the government. I just wish we had more money allotted to some of these programs that work. I don't mind paying taxes when I know that some of it goes to programs that can show tangible results.

Hopefully our youth will take a turn for the good. From what I see on a daily basis it needs anRead More overhaul. A Georgia farmer has won a battle against the state over the date Vidalia Sweet Onions can be shipped. File|Patch
Mack March 26, 2014 at 09:46 am
This is not a 'Ridiculous' law suit but an attempt to stop government from interfering in a privateRead More business. This farmer should have the right to operate his business as he sees fit and without the State telling him what and when he can do with his crop.
Beau waters March 31, 2014 at 08:53 am
I hate it when only half of a story gets told. This is not a case of Government interference. ForRead More years the Vidalia onion has suffered from quality issues because in an effort to rush to market, immature onions that rot quickly on store shelves, have been harvested. In the past year, growers of the onion asked Commissioner Black to help them. Three separate listening sessions were held and an overwhelming majority of the growers asked for this very rule. Bland farms grows onions in Texas and Mexico and it is debatable wether his Vidalia onions actually come from Georgia. This rule takes away his huge advantage of putting out fake Vidalias and thus the reason for the lawsuit.
Jordan Reese April 17, 2014 at 12:27 pm
While some of you may think it is ridiculous, being a Vidalia native I feel that you are completelyRead More and totally uninformed. This is only half of the story. Vidalia Onions are what this town basically runs on. The onions bring in more money each and every year. However, when someone puts out onions that are not ripened to their prime, it creates a stink. People are then angry with the city of Vidalia for their rotten onions, rather than the grower/s for harvesting them too early. This is why Commissioner Black made this rule, because the GROWERS asked for it. For years people have put out "early Vidalia's" and it hurts the business for others who wait it out until the crop is ready. It also creates a bad name for Vidalia's if someone purchases them early and are unhappy. It's all about the quality of the onions. It's not ridiculous, it's the right thing to do.
