The Good Samaritan Health Center is a nonprofit health clinic that provides primary care to uninsured people. A good…More portion of the staff are volunteers, and operations are funded mainly through donations. "We are a Christian health center that provides much-needed health services for low-income people," founder Dr. Bill Warren said.
Warren, in 1995, left his Sandy Springs pediatric practice with the goal of helping people in need. Warren founded the center with a staff of eight people in 1998 and started offering services in 1999. The center first was located near where the Georgia Aquarium now sits.
In 2009, the center moved into a new 33,000-square-foot facility with 18 exam rooms on Donald Lee Hollowell. The center is "kind of a one-stop shop" that offers medical, dental, health education and mental health services, a manager said. Patients pay on a sliding fee scale. The center also has a community room and small classroom for gatherings.
