Have a Budding Tennis Pro in the Family? BB&T Atlanta Open Hosts Ball Person Tryouts

The BB&T Atlanta Open is scheduled for July 20-28, 2013; Qualifying: July 20-21, 2013 at Atlantic Station. Ball Boy tryouts are next week.

The BB&T Atlanta Open will host tryouts for ball persons Monday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 22, at the Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA at Buckhead. The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is the primary charitable beneficiary of this year’s tournament. The BB&T Atlanta Open Tournament is scheduled for July 20-28, 2013 Ball persons must be 13 years old by July 20, 2013, in order to try out and proof of age is required. All applicants must be able to attend either tryout to be considered for this position. If selected, ball persons must be available for the entire tournament and qualifying, July 20-28, at Atlantic Station. Sports fans are invited to sign up for coveted ball persons positions.

If you love tennis and you're quick, you might earn a chance at courtside seats at the upcoming BB&T Atlanta Open -- by being a ball person. Most likely, you won't be actually sitting a lot, but you'll still be in the thick of the tennis action. The BB&T Atlanta Open will host tryouts for ball persons Monday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 22, at Buckhead's Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA. Ball persons must be at least 13 years old by July 20, 2013, in order to try out. Proof of age is required. All applicants must be able to attend one of the tryouts to be considered. Big Peach Stores to Hold Mile of Silence Tuesday at 7 A.M.

The event is a way to remember and support those who were killed or injured in The Boston Marathon explosions on Monday.

A locally owned chain of retail stores serving Atlanta's runners and walkers is holding a Mile of Silence event to remember the victims of Monday's Boston Marathon bomb explosions that left at least three people dead and dozens of others injured. The event, a mile-long moment of silence, will be held at 7 a.m. each of the seven Big Peach Running Co.'s locations, including the Midtown location at 800 Peachtree St. NE. "Runners, walkers, people who just want to feel the love, but don't want to run or walk, are all welcome," said Karen Kaye, BGPC's communications director, told Patch. Grady High Girls Take 1st in Atlanta Track Classic

The citywide track meet brings together the best track athletes from across Atlanta Public Schools.

The finals of the 2013 Atlanta Track Classic were held last week and Grady High School had another impressive showing this year.  According to the TalkUp APS blog, "the Atlanta Track Classic is a citywide track meet bringing together the best track athletes throughout Atlanta Public Schools."  The Boys Team Trophy went to Mays High School, which was followed by Carver High with Grady High in third place. The Girls Team Trophy was claimed by Grady High School, followed by Jackson High and Douglass High. Former Atlanta Prep, Ga Tech Hoops Star Indicted for 2011 Murder

Javaris Crittenton was named in a 12-count grand jury indictment on Tuesday that included charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and participation in criminal street gang activity.

Update: Javaris Crittenton turned himself into Fulton County Jail officials on Thursday afternoon on murder charges. His attorney told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that his client has filed motions for a speedy trial. If released, the former Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy and Georgia Tech basketball star will remain under the same $230,000 bond he posted upon his release two years ago when was originally arrested.
