Midtown's Rafshoon Named Decatur Book Festival Program Director

Former Outwrite Bookstore owner to lead programming for the largest independent book festival in the country.

During the week that he witnessed the Midtown space that for 15 years housed his longtime independent gay and lesbian bookstore open as a restaurant and lounge, Philip Rafshoon has taken on a new literary challenge. Earlier this year, financial hard times caught up Rafshoon’s Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse and he was forced to shutter its doors for good. But if there’s something the Midtown businessman knows, it is books, and that is evidenced by this week’s announcement that the AJC Decatur Book Festival (AJC DBF) has named Rafshoon as its new program director. Effective January 1, 2013, Rafshoon will replace Terra Elan McVoy, a best-selling young adult author who held the position for two years. McVoy resigned her position to dedicate …

10th & Piedmont exterior design - like it or not?

New restaurant readying for a 2012 opening in the former Outwrite Bookstore space to feature window/doors with the capability of sliding all the way open.

Having announced last week that their new restaurant, “10th & Piedmont,” will be opening in December, owners Sean and Gilbert Yeremyan have posted a few artist renderings of what the former Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse space will look like from the outside. The teams of Goodrowe ǀ Hobby, EarthStation Architecture and Structor Group are designing the space for the Yeremyan brothers, who also own and operate the adjoining Gilbert’s Café & Bar, as well as HOBNOB Neighborhood Tavern across from Ansley Mall. 10th & Piedmont will be located at 991 Piedmont Ave., and will be serving seasonally inspired dishes, creatively portioned into small bites for easy sharing. Read more about it here. As for the exterior design, the window/doors will …

December opening for 10th & Piedmont in former Outwrite space

New Midtown restaurant and lounge will specialize in shareable cuisine and late night entertainment

On the heels of this week's news that a new gay-friendly restaurant and bar, "10," will soon be moving into the former Five Napkin Burger space at the corner of Piedmont Avenue and 10th Street, the owners of the restaurant and lounge set to open across the street in former Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse space said their doors will be open by December. Restaurateurs and brothers Sean and Gilbert Yeremyan, owners of Gilbert’s Café & Bar that is next door to the 2,500 square-foot Outwrite space, are excited about the opening of "10th & Piedmont" in a few of months. “We want to create a place that will complete your night,” said Sean Yeremyan. “10th & Piedmont was designed to appeal to our neighbors who want to enjoy dinner with a group, …

I agree with the restaurant/bar wanting to just be a bar. It is much easier to sell the neighbors on a restaurant that is also a bar than just a bar.   more ›
