Come Out! If you're gay ... and to vote

With the Nov. 6 General Election quickly approaching, a Midtown singing group encourages voter participation, and asks Atlanta Pride festival-goers for their words of encouragement for LGBT youth who are afraid to come out.

Election Day is two weeks from today and early voting, which began on Monday, Oct. 15, continues through Nov. 2. As of Monday across Fulton County, more than 45,000 people had cast ballots since early voting began. The heaviest turnout has been in southwest Atlanta, where nearly 8,800 people have voted at the Adamsville Recreation Center, and in College Park, where more than 11,000 people have voted so far. Voters can cast their ballots Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Saturday voting will be offered at the Buckhead Library on Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Remember to bring your picture ID so you can vote. Update: Lesbian victims reportedly started fight during Atlanta Pride

Alleged assault occurred outside the W Atlanta - Midtown during the early morning hours of Oct. 13, 2012

Update - 10/16/12 at 5:30 p.m.: According to the GA Voice, a Fulton County Sheriff's Department report indicates that it was the alleged victims in the original story who initiated the confrontation outside the W Atlanta - Midtown by calling one of the alleged assailants, a woman, a "stripper." The report also states the two females, who claimed to be victims of a hate crime, "appeared to be moderately intoxicated" and both women confirmed to authorities that they had been drinking. Read here for more. UPDATE - 10/15/12 at 5:00 p.m.: An incident report was filed with the Fulton County Sherriff’s Department. That report has not been released but is expected to be later Monday evening or on Tuesday. Check back with Patch for updates. …

Atlanta Pride is important, show & tell us why

The annual Atlanta Pride Parade kicks off Sunday at 1 p.m. from the MARTA Civic Center Station assembly area on West Peachtree Street.

Atlanta Pride, the biggest LGBT event in the Southeast, is in full swing and the party is on! Let us see your most colorful pictures from the 42nd Annual Atlanta Pride Festival here. The Atlanta Pride Festival will promote unity, visibility and self-esteem among lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender persons

The 42nd Annual Atlanta Pride Festival rides a rainbow of love back to Piedmont Park this weekend and with it the always colorful Pride Parade. The festival includes music, entertainment, a marketplace, yoga, children's show, car & motorcycle show, literary showcase, cultural exhibits, health expo, cabaret, food & drink, and much more. Atlanta Pride promotes unity, visibility and self-esteem among lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender persons and to promote a positive image in the Atlanta area and throughout the Southeastern United States through community activities and services.
