MLK Day Holiday Trash Pickup Schedule; City Recycling Tonnage Increases

Since Atlanta’s new residential recycling program was launched in October, recycling tonnage has increased 23 percent.

The City of Atlanta's Office of Solid Waste Services will provide collection services as follows for the upcoming week as a result of Monday’s Martin Luther King, Jr., Day national holiday. Collections will be delayed by one day after the holiday for the remainder of the week as follows: - Monday collections will occur on Tuesday - Tuesday collections will occur on  Wednesday - Wednesday Collections will occur on Thursday - Thursday collections will occur on Friday The Office of Solid Waste Services Customer Service Call Center can be reached at (404) 330-6333 Monday - Thursday, 8:15 am - 5:00 pm. Northeast Atlanta Recycling Cart Delivery Begins this Week

New 96-gallon carts a key component of the City’s sustainability plan and its long-term goal of achieving 90 percent diversion of municipal waste by 2020

City of Atlanta residents who reside in single-family households in the Northeast quadrant of the city are scheduled to begin receiving their new 96-gallon recycling carts beginning later this week. This includes several Midtown Patch neighborhoods including Midtown, Ansley Park, and Sherwood Forest. The delivery to Northeast quadrant residents is scheduled to run Nov. 9-27. Southwest quadrant residents began receiving their carts on Oct. 15. Southeast quadrant residents will receive theirs Nov. 28 – Dec. 21, while Northwest quadrant residents, including those on the westside and in neighborhoods such as Home Park and Loring Heights, will receive theirs Dec. 26 – Jun. 17. Major Expansion of City’s Curbside Recycling Program Coming

Mayor Kasim Reed says expanded residential recycling is central to Atlanta’s plan to become a top tier city for sustainability

Flanked by several blue 96-gallon curbside recycling carts last week, Mayor Kasim Reed announced an aggressive expansion of the City’s residential recycling program.  Beginning October 15, the City of Atlanta will deliver 96-gallon recycling carts to 66,000 households, at the rate of one thousand per day. The citywide distribution of carts is a key component of the City’s sustainability plan, Power to Change, which has a long-term goal of achieving 90 percent diversion of municipal waste by 2020, among other measures. The City of Atlanta’s recycling program is managed by the Department of Public Works and serves 95,000 households.
