The Dogwood Festival is in full swing. I guess it's success today can be judged by the full parking lot in the abandoned apt building on 13th St. The "lot attendant" is raking it in.   more ›

Tragedy avoided: Large tree falls during Dogwood Festival

No one injured as mammoth oak falls 10 feet from a couple on a day when tens of thousands were visiting Piedmont Park.

The strong winds that helped fell a large water oak tree in Piedmont Park Sunday will continue to gust on Monday as there is a wind advisory in effect from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. With tens of thousands attending the Atlanta Dogwood Festival at Piedmont Park on Sunday, a magnificent oak was toppled in the Oak Hill section of the park where many people were going to and from the festival, posing for pictures and playing Frisbee. According to Midtown resident Steve Gower, the tree fell about 10 feet from where a couple was relaxing and enjoying the day. Fortunately no one was injured during the incident. “I was walking home and saw it happen - it sounded like the world was coming to an end,’’ wrote Gower in an email. “With the thousands of …

Pet Parade, ATL Paint Party, Atlanta Rollergirls & More Saturday Fun

It's not all about the Dogwood Festival on Saturday.

With the Dogwood Festival in full swing, hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate on Saturday. But there is a 60 percent chance of rain Saturday with temperatures expected to reach the low 70s. With the 76th annual festival expected to bring thousands to the Midtown area, traffic will be congested around Piedmont Park. Still, there are other options to fill your day. Maybe volunteering is on your Saturday planner. On Friday, Atlanta Gas Light held a successful volunteer effort in collecting trash along the south portion of the company’s adopted BeltLine segment in celebration of Earth Day. (See pictures with this article) And on Saturday, Comcast invites Atlanta to make a difference in the community by volunteering at the 11th annual Comcast…

The best way to make a positive difference is to just drop COMCAST! Their service is $LOPPY, over priced & the cable shows have way too many commercials. I'm quite happy with the FREE, OVER THE AIR, DIGITAL CHANNELS I RECEIVE.   more ›
