In October, Carter’s, Inc., the country’s largest branded marketer of apparel exclusively for babies and young children, announced plans to consolidate its retail store and financial operations currently managed in its Shelton, Conn., facility with the company’s Midtown-based operations. Carter’s, Inc., which is located at 1170 Peachtree Street in The Proscenium building, makes OshKosh B’gosh branded apparel. In making the October announcement, the company said it was evaluating its long-term space needs in the Atlanta area as approximately 200 new jobs were expected to be created in Atlanta principally in the areas of retail merchandising and store operations, finance, and information technology. It’s not just Atlantans looking for a yummy lunch or mid-day snack who will benefit from the arrival of the city’s newest food truck, but individuals and families getting help from City of Refuge have much to gain as well. With Ford Fry at the culinary helm and the commitment and support of North American Properties, Vantage Atlanta, and Iconologic, along with the residents and supporters of City of Refuge, the truck is scheduled to launch in spring of 2013. “We are going to have fun with this truck,” said Fry, who among the restaurants he owns includes the westside’s JCT. The westside seafood restaurant and bar garners national praise from Esquire magazine
The Optimist has been tapped by Esquire magazine as its 2012 “Best New Restaurant of the Year.” Opened this past spring at 914 Howell Mill Road, The Optimist is owner Ford Fry’s third Howell Mil establishment, joining JCT Kitchen and White Provisions. The seafood restaurant’s name was suggested by Fry’s father and refers to a small, single-handed sailing dinghy intended for use by children up to the age of 15. The understated quality of the name along with the forthright meaning of the word appeals to Fry, who has commented that he appreciates the reference to being an optimist about the “day’s catch” and “catching the next big fish.” The magazine’s food writer John Mariani comments: “A soaring, convivial spot, the Optimist has a hopping …
