South Midtown Bustling with Major Construction

Work begins on a 280 apartment mixed-use project near Juniper and Ponce de Leon avenues, while developers are ready to begin building the Georgia Proton Treatment Center across the street.

The property includes famed architect I.M. Pei's first office building, the former Gulf Oil Building, which most recently had been used as office space by small businesses and architects. The buyer was a joint venture between Sereo Group and Faison …

The Midtown SPI-16 & SPI-17 Development Review Committee (DRC) is expected to review revised site plans for a pair of high-profile south Midtown projects on Tuesday. At least week’s Neighborhood Planning Unit-E meeting, representatives from a group seeking to build a $225 million, 115,000 square-foot cancer-treating proton facility provided an update on the project that is being proposed on a 2.39-acre property bounded by Peachtree St., North Ave., Juniper St., and Ponce de Leon Ave. The Georgia Proton Therapy Center that is slated for the 615 Peachtree St. property will be co-operated by Emory Healthcare. New Peek at Midtown Proton Treatment Center

Video shows an updated look at plans for a proposed 115,000 square-foot cancer-treating proton facility to be built on a key piece of south Midtown property

At last month’s Midtown SPI-16 & SPI-17 Development Review Committee (DRC) meeting, the committee heard plans from a group seeking to build a $225 million, 115,000 square-foot cancer-treating proton facility on a 2.39-acre property bounded by Peachtree St., North Ave., Juniper St., and Ponce de Leon Ave. Plans were not made available to Patch at the time, nor have they been made available since. However, at this week’s Neighborhood Planning Unit-E meeting in Midtown, a representative from the architectural firm Perkins + Will did give the NPU a brief update on site plan changes made during the last few weeks. Patch provides here a video – by no means of professional quality – of portions of that presentation. The group is expected to go …

I hope the current proposal doesn't pass. That is such a prime area. I like the "Pei" mixed use project to include more living in downtown and Midtown though. I would much rather see a major development for that section. Like having a low rise and high rise connected. A smaller 5-10 story building can line Peachtree and North Ave with street level retail along both that would connected to a high …   more ›
