GPB producer quits in protest of Rogers' hiring, salary

Fifteen-year employee at Georgia Public Broadcasting says hiring of former State Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers, whose $150,000-a-year salary ranks second at GPB, “stinks of cronyism.”

A little more than a month after former State Sen. Chip Rogers resigned his seat to take a high-paying job with Midtown-based Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB), an executive producer and 15-year employee at GPB has quit in protest, saying the hiring of the former State Senate Majority Leader “stinks of  cronyism.” Rogers began his $150,000-a-year job as a executive producer on Tuesday at GPB, located at 260 14th Street. Late last year, GPB announced it was launching a new initiative in which it would facilitate coverage of economic development and jobs in Georgia. Controversial State Sen. Chip Rogers to step down, join GPB

Rogers recently also decided not to seek re-election as senate majority leader.

State Sen. Chip Rogers, who came under scrutiny recently for hosting an ex-Tea Partier's lengthy session linking public-private partnerships, local chambers of commerce and a United Nations project called Agenda 21, has resigned his seat, Woodstock Patch reports. Rogers, 44, said in a statement he plans to accept a position with Georgia Public Broadcasting, located at 260 14th Street in Midtown. "The opportunity to help lead Georgia Public Broadcasting is like a dream come true in many respects," he said. GPB is launching a new initiative in which it will "facilitate coverage of economic development and jobs in Georgia," according to a press release from Rogers' office. GPB's Ryan honored for forging new paths for women

Broadcast media veteran among a dozen Atlanta women recognized as self-motivated trailblazers who "see through the clutter and embrace a constantly evolving terrain, paving the way for others."

Teya Ryan, president and executive director of Midtown’s Georgia Public Broadcasting Media, was among a dozen women honored last week at the Womenetics 2012 POW! Awards held at the Georgia Aquarium. Womenetics, an online media company for and about women, honored the group of female leaders from the Atlanta area “who forge new paths and create leadership models for the women who follow.” Ryan, a Virginia-Highland resident, is a 30-year broadcast media veteran whose innovative ideas and passion for storytelling have earned her leadership roles at PBS, CNN and TBS.
