Tech to host one of the South's largest Earth Day celebrations

A look around the happenings on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology

Georgia Tech students will be taking final exams later this month as it continues to be a busy spring on campus. And certainly it will be Friday with the school’s 15th annual Earth Day Celebration, one of the largest in the southeast. Thousands of people will converge on Tech Walk for the 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. event, which will feature 70 exhibitors, live music, free organic popcorn and recycling activities. The goal of Georgia Tech's Earth Day Celebration is to focus attention on the environment and increase people's awareness of the world around them. The event is free and open to the public and see here for more information. _______ Of course, it’s not cheap to attend to Tech, and more than 500 students recently received the Tech Promise, a…

Georgia Tech Week: Good Times and Bad

It hasn't been the greatest series of days for the Yellow Jacket athletic department, but at least the Institute’s College of Engineering continues to thrive.

Recently disappointed supporters of Georgia Tech’s athletic program, which has absorbed a series of demoralizing blows in recent days, might hone in this week on the first two lines of the school’s fight song: I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech, and a hell of an engineer— A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, hell of an engineer. Well, there’s no denying such as the school’s graduate programs continue to earn high marks from U.S. News & World Report's annual rankings. The Institute’s College of Engineering ranked No. 4 for the eighth consecutive year and all eleven of the programs within the college are ranked in the top 10 including industrial engineering (No. 1), biomedical (No. 2), civil (No. 3), aerospace (No. 4), electrical (No. 5…

Georgia Tech Wins, Eliminates Southern Miss in NCAA Atlanta Regional

A huge second inning and a stellar mound performance led Yellow Jackets to victory in must-win game; face Austin Peay in rematch at 3 p.m.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets jumped out early with five runs in the second inning on their way to beat the Southern Miss Golden Eagles Saturday at Russ Chandler Stadium in the NCAA Atlanta Regional, 6-2. It was a win-or-go-home situation for both teams in the NCAA Tournament and the Yellow Jackets answered with both timely hitting and a great pitching performance from junior Jed Bradley. “We are a much happier group today,” Yellow Jacket head coach Danny Hall said. “I thought there were a couple keys to the game today, Jed started off really well and Brandon (Thomas) was able to hit the home run and give us a big inning. We got a nice lead after the second inning and pretty much stayed in control throughout the rest of the game.” …

Yellow Jackets Fall in Atlanta Regional

No. 1 seeded Georgia Tech couldn't score when it needed to, lose to Austin Peay, 2-1.

Things started going wrong for the No. 1 seed Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (40-20) even before the first pitch was thrown during Friday’s NCAA Atlanta Regional. While going through a normal workout session Thursday, the same workout that he goes through every day before a start, Yellow Jackets coach Danny Hall said starting pitcher Mark Pope felt a twinge in his back. Pope stopped his workout and went home to rest. Upon arriving at Russ Chandler Stadium Friday, Hall said Pope was on the mend. “When he got to the park today,” said Hall. “He (Pope) said he felt better than he felt yesterday when he left. We just kind of went with him and said ‘all right, we’ll see what you can do’. In the second inning it (his back) kind of grabbed him again…
