Second-year coach Josh Postorino will not be on the bench “for an indefinite period of time in order to deal with personal issues” according to statement released by the team.
The Georgia Tech men’s basketball team over the weekend remained undefeated in its new basketball arena, but did so without one of its assistant coaches watching from the bench. The Yellow Jackets used a late 9-0 spurt to overtake pesky UNC-Wilmington Saturday night and turn back the Seahawks 73-66 at McCamish Pavilion. Missing from the contest was Tech assistant coach Josh Postorino, who was reportedly arrested early Thursday morning for DUI in Jacksonville, Fla. The team released a statement shortly before Saturday’s game indicating the 35-year-old coach, who is in his second season with the Jackets, would not be on the bench “for an indefinite period of time in order to deal with personal issues.” Postorino, a former director of …

Winners of four of their first five games, the Yellow Jackets return home next week to face rival Georgia to begin a seven-game stand at the McCamish Pavilion.
The Georgia Tech football team laid an egg at rival Georgia over the weekend, but the Yellow Jackets’ hoops squad will have the opportunity to even the score for the school next week when Tech plays host to the Bulldogs at the brand new McCamish Pavilion. Winners of just 11 games a year ago, the Jackets are almost halfway to their 2011-12 win total following Sunday’s 65-56 win over Saint Mary's (Cal) in the third place game of the DirecTV Classic in Anaheim, Calif. Tech is now 4-1 entering Wednesday’s game at Illinois in a 9 p.m. contest that will be televised on ESPN2. After that, coach Brian Gregory’s team will return to Atlanta to begin a seven-game homestand starting with a Dec. 4 game against the Bulldogs. The Georgia Tech Business …

Yellow Jackets' Athletic Director Dan Radakovich reportedly set to leave for rival ACC school. Some Tech fans wish the football coach would follow him out the door
Numerous media outlets are reporting today that Georgia Tech Athletic Director Dan Radakovich will leave the Midtown school to be Clemson’s new athletic director. A Monday afternoon news conference has been called at the South Carolina school to announce the hiring of Radakovich, who will replace the retiring Don Philips. Greenville (SC) News writer Bart Wright was the first to report the hiring via twitter. Radakovich, who has been at Tech for six years, is credited for planning and advancing many of the athletic facilities at the school. Included in that is the renovation of Alexander Memorial Coliseum into McCamish Pavilion, as well as projects involving a new indoor football practice facility, tennis complex and softball stadium. But …

Teams can officially begin basketball practice Friday as the Georgia Tech squads welcome a state-of-the-art, on-campus facility after playing the full 2011-12 season away from home.
Can you hear that familiar sound that’s gone quiet since last spring? Yes, the undeniable sound of basketball sneakers squeaking on the gym floor is back as basketball season officially returns to Georgia Tech on Friday. The NCAA allows full-on hoops practices beginning today and in less than a month, the men and women teams at Tech will officially christen their brand spanking new McCamish Pavilion. The $40-plus million renovation of the Alexander Memorial Coliseum site forced the Jackets to play a full season away from home (Philips Arena, Gwinnett Arena) a year ago, but this year Georgia Tech will be playing its home games in one of the country’s top facilities. See the accompanying video for more on McCamish Pavilion and its concourse …

It hasn't been the greatest series of days for the Yellow Jacket athletic department, but at least the Institute’s College of Engineering continues to thrive.
Recently disappointed supporters of Georgia Tech’s athletic program, which has absorbed a series of demoralizing blows in recent days, might hone in this week on the first two lines of the school’s fight song: I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech, and a hell of an engineer— A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, hell of an engineer. Well, there’s no denying such as the school’s graduate programs continue to earn high marks from U.S. News & World Report's annual rankings. The Institute’s College of Engineering ranked No. 4 for the eighth consecutive year and all eleven of the programs within the college are ranked in the top 10 including industrial engineering (No. 1), biomedical (No. 2), civil (No. 3), aerospace (No. 4), electrical (No. 5…
