APD Investigate Link Between GA Tech Students Carjacked and Buckhead Armed Robberies

One man was forced into his trunk and not released until the police arrived.

Atlanta Police are investigating to see if the recent carjackings of two Georgia Tech students and Buckhead armed robberies may be connected. One of the carjacking victims, who are Georgia Tech students, told WSB that the suspects seemed "pretty coordinated" and confronted them with a gun as soon as he opened his car door. They took the students' wallets, cell phones and car keys, WSB reports. The victim was being dropped off by a friend at his Pharr Road apartment on Friday night. He said he thinks the suspects were waiting in their cars across the street and watching them. The men then drove away from the scene in three separate cars, which a police spokesman said is "unusual." Two armed robberies committed on Sunday morning less than a …

Actually I think it's quite the opposite. The black leadership is okay with black on black crime. Pockets of poverty down boulevard, five points station that spill out onto adjoining neighborhoods. They continue to ignore the problem while the population suffers in silence, powerless unable to do anything except call 911 and arm themselves. Its a shame.   more ›

Ga Tech Housing: Watch for 'tailgaters' entering buildings

Football game day tailgate season is here, but there's another type of campus tailgating that police officials want students to be aware of.

As fall begins, tailgating is on a lot of people’s minds — but for the Georgia Tech Department of Housing, there are no snacks, chairs or lawn games involved. The department's biggest concern going into the new school year is the kind of tailgating that allows those who aren’t members of the Tech community to follow residents into dorms.  “Because most of us were raised to hold the door open for the person behind us, instinct takes over,” Dan Morrison, director of Residence Life, said in a release. “However, we hope to educate students that this behavior actually makes everyone in a residential community vulnerable.” At the same time, Housing staff and the Georgia Tech Police Department recognize that students may feel they’re being rude, …
