State of the Grady Cluster: Lots accomplished, lots to do

Atlanta Public Schools' administrators and principals gave an overview and answered questions Thursday night at Grady High School concerning where local schools stand regarding a variety of education-related issues.

In the First Annual State of the Grady Cluster Presentation, held at Grady High School on Thursday, February 7, 2013, parents and interested community members learned there is much to celebrate in the Grady Cluster of Atlanta Public Schools (APS).  The Grady Cluster includes Grady High School, Inman Middle School, and the five “feeder” elementary schools: Centennial Place, Hope-Hill, Mary Lin, Morningside and Springdale Park. No. 1 on my celebration list, as a Grady parent, is the chart of SAT scores shared by Grady Principal Dr. Vincent Murray, indicating an overall increase in 2012 SAT scores, with Grady High School 2012 seniors scoring higher than the national average. After several turbulent years, “moving beyond scandal” and …

6th Grade Academy site on agenda at Thursday's Grady State-of-the-Cluster meeting

Atlanta Public Schools’ Superintendent Erroll B. Davis is expected to attend and discuss middle school capacity issues.

Grady’s State-of-the-Cluster Meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at Grady High School and is open to all community members and stakeholders. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Atlanta Public Schools’ Superintendent Erroll B. Davis is expected to attend and discuss middle school capacity issues. Last week, Davis responded to the Inman Task Force regarding capacity issues and a copy of that letter is attached with this article. At the start of the 2012-13 school year, Davis delivered a state-of-the-district address to speak candidly about our challenges and new work to build a culture of excellence system wide. Now, the K-12 regional executive directors and school principals are holding their own forums to provide an …

Davis: Inman Middle Crowding Needs to be Solved Quickly

Superintendent Erroll Davis suggests moving some students to an unused school building in the Old Fourth Ward.

Maybe there needs to be a new middle school built to relieve overcrowding at Inman Middle School. Or maybe 6th or 8th-graders should be housed in a separate academy, possibly located in the Old Fourth Ward. This is what Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Erroll B. Davis Jr. told a task force on Tuesday morning at a packed meeting at Inman Middle School. “I don’t need consensus on anything. I don’t need votes. I need your best thinking,” the superintendent told the task force. More than 60 parents turned out for the meeting, sitting on the floor when they ran out of chairs. But questions and discussion were limited to the task force members – about 20 in attendance. Davis suggested that an academy could be housed in an annex close to the…

I can only imagine the up-to-date technological infrastructure present in both schools!? Not to mention, everything else necessary for teachers to teach and children to learn. The quality of instruction and communication involves technology throughout the day; cannot do without it. Running a split school involves duplicating many services and equipment, staff traveling between buildings, parents …   more ›

Grady High PTSA Open House on Tuesday

A roundup of Midtown school news including a scheduled appearance by APS Superintendent Erroll B. Davis at Tuesday's Inman Capacity Task Force meeting.

The Grady High School and Grady PTSA Open House will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 6 p.m. in the school's theater. Join fellow parents and friends to meet the faculty and staff at this year’s first PTSA meeting in the theatre and follow your student’s class schedule immediately after the meeting. During brief informational sessions, teachers will personally answer questions about their course content, resources, expectations and homework.   Be mindful that the purpose of Open House is to give parents an overview of their student’s classes. Individual conferences should be scheduled for a later date. Looking for a way to help our teachers and classrooms? Please consider bringing any of the items below to the PTSA Open House. You may …
