Mamanoes ... and Mama-Goes

As short-lived Midtown grocery shop exits town, a new Roaring Twenties-inspired nightclub and dessert lounge targets a November opening in the Midtown Promenade shopping center.

Well, that didn’t last long. Roughly five weeks or so after it opened for business in Midtown, Mamanoes Grocery Shop has apparently shuttered its doors. That’s the report Monday night from What Now Atlanta, which spoke recently with construction workers near the space at Peachtree and 10th streets who confirmed the closing. Mamanoes owner Antonio Boyd could not be reached for comment, but the windows for the “old-school but upscale bodega” had been blocked from public view for more than a week. Many readers were unimpressed with the new grocery shop by way of their comments on a Midtown Patch story about Mamanoes last month. Poor lighting and an unappealing presentation of goods were just two of the complaints of the store that was housed …

Midtown Welcomes New Grocery Shop

Mamanoes comes to the heart of Midtown via Alabama.

Midtown’s newest grocery store is open and ready for business. Only it’s not exactly a grocery store. “We’re a grocery shop,” explained Mamanoes Grocery Shop owner Antonio Boyd. “The difference is that if we don’t have it we can get it. How fast can I get it? Probably the next day if it’s within reason.” Boyd opened Mamanoes the Friday before Labor Day in the former Jocks & Jills Sports Grill space at the intersection of 10th and Peachtree Streets. The boutique grocer marks the second locale after Boyd opened the first Mamanoes in Birmingham two years ago. What can you find at Mamanoes? Spot-on comments. It would behoove the owner to consult some locals or professionals on where he needs to position this store in order for it to not only survive, but thrive. There are so many local Atlanta/Georgia products that are hard to find outside of maybe Whole Foods (Monday Night brewery, Springer Mountain Farms, High Road Craft ice cream, Atlanta Underground Market products, etc. the …   more ›
