Approved cycling improvements directly border or feed into Georgia Tech’s campus

In Midtown, bike lanes will be added to the 10th Street bridge refurbishment, between Fowler and Williams Streets, and from Piedmont Avenue to Monroe Drive, connecting to the BeltLine Eastside Trail.

Last week, the Atlanta City Council approved $2.5 million in funding for bicycle projects during the next two years – many of which will directly border or feed into Georgia Tech’s campus. “The Institute has gone to great lengths to improve our bike facilities on campus, installing hundreds of new bike racks, safer intersection treatments, and miles of new lanes and sharrows,” Aaron Fowler, campus transportation planner in Parking & Transportation Services, said in a news release. “But with this allocation of $2.5 million in bike improvements by the City of Atlanta, we get to take a major step in improving our bike connections into campus.”  In Midtown, bike lanes will be added to the 10th Street bridge refurbishment, between Fowler and …

Wednesday open house for new Midtown sidewalk and bicycle projects

Plans call for a new sidewalk and bicycle project on Juniper Street that will help transform the corridor into one of Atlanta’s greenest streets; new, high quality bicycle facilities on 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue in the works, too.

Stolen Bike During National Bike Month

Homeless man with stolen bicycle arrested Sunday in Midtown stealing money out of parking lot boxes

According to the Atlanta Police Department’s Zone 5 Criminal Investigation Unit, a homeless man was arrested Sunday stealing money out of parking lot boxes on West Peachtree Street. According to investigators, the man, who is new to the Midtown community according to representatives from the Peachtree/Pine homeless shelter where he has been staying, was in possession of a stolen bike. The bike, a Dynacraft Power climber with 2x dual suspension, is baby blue in color and almost brand new. A photo of the bike accompanies this article and if you know whom the bike belongs to, please contact the APD at JCantin@atlantaga.gov. Hopefully this stolen bike can be returned to its rightful owner as we’re in the middle of National Bike Month. And …
