Crank Up The Music (but not too loudly)

Music Midtown 2012 arrives, but not all Piedmont Park area residents are singing a welcoming song.

Music Midtown 2012 is virtually here as tens of thousands of music-loving fans will be pouring into Piedmont Park on Friday and Saturday. It’s an exciting event featuring some very popular musical acts, but not everyone is whistling a happy tune. There are concerned residents from neighborhoods that surround the park who wonder why Midtown must bear the burden in order for the rest of metro Atlanta and visitors to party during a string of spring, summer and fall festivals and events staged in and near the park. Some contend it’s just part of the deal that comes with living in Midtown. Still, others want to insure that Midtown and Piedmont Park doesn’t get taken advantage of. Midtown Tour of Homes Needs You!

Volunteer to help with the Midtown Neighbors' Association’s 2012 Midtown Tour of Homes that is set for Nov. 17-18.

Planning for the Midtown Neighbors' Association’s 2012 Midtown Tour of Homes is underway and there's plenty of opportunities for local residents to get involved. This year’s Tour takes a new approach beginning with a change of season with the Tour set for November 17 and 18. The Midtown Tour of Homes, a fundraiser that began in 1971, was staged during the spring in 2011. The event typically features between nine and 15 homes each year. Several great homes have already been lined up for the Tour, but the MNA is currently seeking assistance in several areas. Do you love organizing events? Is your passion sales? The Midtown Neighbors’ Association will be hosting its August Mingle in Midtown event Wednesday at Proof & Provision at the Georgian Terrace Hotel. From 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., join friends, neighbors and colleagues in celebrating the waning days of summer with refreshing drink specials and a selection of munchies at one of Midtown's newest places to be seen. APD Chief Turner to visit Midtown National Night Out events

Tuesday night, communities across the country will participate in annual event to heighten crime awareness and promote keeping neighborhoods safe, block by block.

On Tuesday, Aug. 7, Atlantic Station and the Midtown Neighbors’ Association are planning separate events in conjunction with the 29th Annual National Night Out, a crime and drug prevention program sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Communities across the country will participate to heighten crime awareness and create partnerships with local anti-crime programs. In recent years, NNO has grown to join more than 37 million people together in more than 13,000 neighborhoods across the country. This year’s City of Atlanta theme for National Night Out is "The More We Get Together, The Safer We’ll Be," as it promotes keeping communities safe, block by block. MNA invests more than $105K in the neighborhood

A quick peek at some Midtown news to use for the next couple of days

May is membership month for the Midtown Neighbors’ Association, which is hosting a “Mingle in Midtown” event Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Takorea. The restaurant, located at 818 Juniper Street, is donating 10 percent of its net proceeds that night to the MNA. Complementary light appetizers and drink specials will be available, so bring your neighbors and friends and help raise money for the MNA.   Did you know since 2005, MNA has invested more than $105,000 in your neighborhood? Greenprint Midtown Interactive Visioning Session set for Tuesday

Midtown Alliance invites you Tuesday evening to give your input on potential high-impact, high-value projects and programs that would position Midtown as the first urban eco-district in the Southeast.  The Greenprint Midtown Interactive Visioning Session will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the AT&T Conference Center, located at 725 West Peachtree Street. Music Midtown Seeks Return This Fall

Live Nation has filed for a special event permit with the City of Atlanta to hold the festival in Piedmont Park over two days in September.

Music Midtown is ready to jam again. Live Nation has filed for a special event permit with the City of Atlanta to again hold the festival in Piedmont Park this fall. The application states that it will be held on Friday evening, September 21, and all day on Saturday, September 22. Last year’s festival was just one day. No musical acts have been revealed and more details about the event are scheduled to be announced in the coming weeks. Who do you want to see play Music Midtown 2012? The festival was held 12 times from 1994-2005, but then was put on hiatus before returning last September, when tens of thousands of fans piled into Piedmont Park to attend the one-day festival headlined by The Black Keys and Coldplay. MNA advocates expansion of SPARK, Inman and Grady to support growing student population

The Midtown Neighbors' Association releases its position statement on the Atlanta Public Schools redistricting as it applies to Midtown.

Editor's note: The Midtown Neighbors' Association has drafted a position letter to APS Superintendent Erroll B. Davis, Jr., the APS school board and the Atlanta city council concerning the current APS rezoning. The MNA shared its letter with Midtown Patch. Dear Mr. Davis, APS Staff, Atlanta Board of Education, and Atlanta City Council Members, Again, thank you for your commitment in working to achieve balanced capacity utilization in Atlanta Public Schools, and to create attractive, high performing schools.
