Midtown Businesses Opening and Closing

Reports are that the country's smallest Walmart is coming to Georgia Tech.

We’re almost halfway through first month of the new year and it’s a good opportunity to take a quick peek at Midtown businesses coming and going. Got a tip on recent business opening or closing in Midtown or on the westside, let us know at midtown@patch.com. _______ According to the Georgia Tech online newspaper, Technique, Walmart will be moving into the shuttered Ribs’s n’ Blues space at 68 5th Street in Tech Square. The college newspaper reports that the Georgia Tech Auxiliary Services and the discount retailer have a signed contractual agreement to bring a “convenience store concept” to the 2,5000 square-foot space. The “Walmart pharmacy” will be the smallest of its kind in the country for the company the campus news source reports. …

Report: Post Biltmore sold, name changed

West Peachtree Street six-story apartment midrise reportedly sold to an investor out of Chicago this week.

Skyline Views, the Wilbert New Strategies’ blog, reported Thursday morning that a Chicago-based investor has purchased Post Biltmore from Post Properties and immediately changed the name to Biltmore at Midtown. The widely known Post name has been removed and a wooden sign says the six-story, 276-unit apartment midrise at 855 West Peachtree Street is under new management. But as Skyline Views notes, “at least the famous Post landscaping remains.” Jones Lang LaSalle Americas Inc had been marketing the two-building, 2.36-acre property near Cypress Street. The new owner is reported to be Chicago-based Mesirow. A marketing brochure said: “With only two other apartment communities located within central Midtown, the area is extremely undeserved …

Donald, I agree. I signed a lease recently, and I felt completely caught off-guard by the change. There was no advanced notice, just the note on the door with paperwork, and the next day, I was turning in my rent to a new person.
