APD Zone 5 Commander: Call 9-1-1 for any issue

Atlanta Police Department commander for the zone that covers many Midtown Patch neighborhoods says calling 9-1-1 is the only way department can keep a good record of where the issues are so that they can deploy resources to the areas that need it most.

Update - 1/29/13: Additional crime stats for 2012 and comments from Zone 5 Commander Major Wayne Whitmire have been added to the article. Original story: This month, the Atlanta Police Department said that crime stats for 2012 showed that across the city of Atlanta, overall crime was down 5 percent from 2011. Atlanta suffered its second fewest homicides (85) in 50 years while other violent crimes dropped last year including rape (down 24 percent), aggravated assault (down 2 percent), and robbery (down 1 percent). But property theft experienced a slight increase and as some residents of Atlanta Police Department’s Zone 5 know, the miniscule dropping of aggravated assault and robbery crimes has barely been felt in the immediate area. Zone 5…

The victim, who asked not to be identified by Patch, described how “very unnerving” the incident was that occurred on a sunny Tuesday afternoon shortly after noon near the area of 6th Street and Glendale Terrace. “John” told Patch that he pulled into his driveway, …

Carjacking crew hits Midtown, unsuspecting good Samaritans

Gun-wielding duo suspected of three armed robberies and shooting one man in the leg.

A series of recent carjackings that spread from Midtown to the downtown connector to Stone Mountain resulted in several armed robberies and a non-English speaking man being shot in the back of the leg most likely because he didn’t understand what an armed suspect was saying to him. The crime spree began shortly after midnight this past Friday, Jan. 11, when a female, talking on her phone in a well-lit area on 11th Street, was approached by a man with a gun who quietly robbed her of her phone, purse and personal belongings. A second gunman then appeared and demanded the keys to her 2001 white Honda Accord. According to the Atlanta police, she “threw her keys and ran away.” The crime occurred a block south of the Crescent Street area that is…

So, we give vouchers to the poor to move into middle class neighborhoods. A PRIME EXAMPLE is here in Atlanta. In the 80s …   more ›
