The Midtown Neighborhood, Atlantic Station and communities across the nation will once again gather on Tuesday, August 7, for the 29th Annual National Night Out event. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnership and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. In recent years, NNO has grown to join more than 35 million people together in more than 13,000 neighborhoods across the country. Two of a reported five alleged suspects later arrested in Midtown neighborhood
According to the Atlanta Police Department, two men were arrested on armed robbery charges overnight in midtown after allegedly being a part of a larger group that had robbed a pair of juveniles in nearby Piedmont Park. APD Zone 5 officers responded to a pedestrian robbery call at the park around 11:45 p.m. After receiving a description of the suspects and a general direction they had fled in, a subsequent canvass of “the midtown neighborhood” resulted in two of the five suspects being apprehended. According to APD Officer Kim Jones, a further canvass of the area yielded a weapon that was used by the suspects. Sgt. Bill Cooper, patrol manager of the Midtown Ponce Security Alliance (MPSA), will be conducting a non-working street light inventory this week. If you are aware of any street lights out, please report them to info@midtownponce.org to put on the list to report to Georgia Power and the city.
