Some Midtown Restaurant Spaces Make Expert's "Cursed" List

A real estate and restaurant expert recently compiled a list of restaurant spaces that have had a high turnover in one or more areas.

Some Midtown addresses are included in an article about "cursed restaurant spaces" posted on Atlanta Eater.  The list was created by Eli Zandman of Tomorrow's News Today. According to Atlanta Eater, the places named have gone through "at least three changes in ownership, concept, or both." Included are 980 Piedmont Ave. (Campagnolo), 1001 Piedmont Ave. (empty, formerly Groovy Smoothy), among others. Do you agree with the list of "cursed" restaurant spaces? Tell us in the comments section below.

The curse of 980 Piedmont has been broken. Before Campagnolo, no one was willing (or able) to make the capital investment needed to make the space functional and attractive. Maureen is doing a solid business and an asset to the neighborhood. I wish her success in her new venue, Henry's.   more ›

Lime Fresh Mexican Grill Closes in Midtown

Florida-based fast-casual Mexican concept lasted less than 14 months in space that was previous home to The Bake Shop.

The restaurant changeover at the corner of Peachtree and 8th streets continues as Lime Fresh Mexican Grill has shuttered its doors less than 14 months after opening in the space that formally occupied The Bake Shop at 903 Peachtree. A sign posted on the door announced the closing of the Florida-based fast-casual Mexican concept that opened for business in late March 2012. According to some on Twitter Monday, the sudden closing caught employees by surprise. It marks the second closure for a Lime Fresh in the metro area after the Peachtree Hills location closed in January. The Buckhead location in the former Johnny Rockets space near West Paces Ferry Road and Peachtree remains open. Last month, Villains Wicked Heroes opened next door to Lime…

Well, if that was the case they either 1. needed a sign stating that, or 2. had someone come up and let us know. You can't have a public restaurant open, staffed, serving people, in one of the most heavily traveled pedestrian areas of the city and expect random potential customers understand that its not really open. And I agree about it not being good news for restaurants but "hiding" the news …   more ›

Dunkin' Donuts Looks to Sweet Return to Ponce

The company plans a 2,100 square-foot restaurant at the corner of Boulevard and Ponce de Leon Avenue after closing Midtown Place shopping center location in late 2011.

Get ready for a food fight. Dunkin' Brands Group Inc., the parent company to Dunkin' Donuts, plans to open a 2,100 square-foot restaurant at the southwest corner of Ponce de Leon Avenue and Boulevard. The Canton, Mass.-based sweets and coffee shop, will construct a new building that will replace A+ Financial Services at 682 Boulevard, according to a report in Tomorrow's News Today. The planned store puts it in a head-to-head combat for Ponce motorists with a Krispy Kreme Doughnuts outlet just a few blocks west on Ponce. In late 2011, the Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins closed its doors in the Midtown Place shopping center only a few hundred yards east on Ponce. The new location is part of the company's strategy to beef up its presence in…

Midtown Restaurants Coming: Chicken, Pizza & What?

Zaxby’s and Uncle Maddio’s Pizza Joint reportedly readying to open in the Midtown area in 2013.

The final day of 2012 saw E-Six Lab close its doors after 33 years of business. But it looks like the westside commercial space where the film development business was housed could soon be transformed into a new restaurant. An application recently filed with the city for the space at 678 10th Street has an applicant seeking to reduce the on-site parking from 40 spaces to 20 on-site spaces to allow for "the conversion of the existing structure to an eat/drink establishment." The building is located between Howell Mill Road and Northside Drive across the street from the Atlanta Humane Society. When contacted by Patch, the applicant declined to discuss future plans for a possible eatery. Stay tuned … But a pair of recent vacated structures in…
