Life Without Parole: Former Security Guard Guilty on All Charges in Deadly Midtown Shooting Spree

Jurors took less than two hours to find Nkosi Thandiwe guilty in the shooting of three women in Midtown.

  UPDATE: 5:17 pm Nkosi Thandiwe has been sentenced to life without parole. There was no rejoicing or tears visible when the verdict was announced in the courtroom, just a general sense of sadness. UPDATE: 4:30 pm Brian Watts, the husband of the woman who died in the shooting spree, testified during Thursday afternoon's sentencing hearing that he lost his soulmate the day his wife was killed. "I'm truly lost," he said. "I realize that the worst day of my life has passed, but I also realize the best days of my life are passed." Other members of the Watts family asked the judge to impose the maximum sentence of life without parole. Testimony Begins in Murder Trial of Former Midtown Security Guard

Nkosi Thandiwe is on trial for a lunch hour shooting that killed one woman and injured two others in the parking garage of the Proscenium building.

  Survivors and witnesses to the July 2011 parking deck shooting in Midtown began testifying Tuesday in the trial of the former security guard charged in the case. Nkosi Thandiwe has pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges connected to the July 2011 shooting spree at the Proscenium building that left Brittney Watts dead at the scene, injured Tiffany Ferenczy in the leg and paralyzed Lauren Garcia. Assistant Fulton County district attorney Linda Dunikoski told the jury Tuesday that Watts was killed by a gunshot wound to the neck, but she suffered other injuries as well, according to an AJC.COM report. Jury selection underway in Midtown Proscenium building shooting spree case

Jury selection is underway in the trial of the security guard accused of the July 2011 Midtown shooting spree that killed one woman and left another paralyzed. Patch was in Judge Kelly A. Lee’s Fulton County Superior Courtroom Monday morning as defense lawyers for Nkosi Thandiwe, 23, and Fulton Assistant District Attorney Linda Dunikoski questioned 60 potential jurors. During the lunch recess, attorneys involved declined to comment as the selection process was to continue throughout the afternoon. Midtown shooting suspect loses lawyer, has trial date set

The security guard accused of the July 2011 Midtown shooting spree that killed one woman and left another paralyzed, is losing his defense lawyer, John Garland. Monday at Fulton County Superior Court, lawyers for Nkosi Thandiwe told Judge Kelly A. Lee that they would file a withdrawal motion this week, dropping Thandiwe as a client. Garland, who had had taken on the case pro bono, or free of charge, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Monday that it was the wishes of Thandiwe to be dropped. Outside the courtroom, another attorney working alongside Garland on the case explained further to Patch that it was a matter of finances.  The security guard accused of shooting three women in Midtown last summer, killing one and leaving another paralyzed, is capable of standing trial Fulton County Superior Court Judge Kelly A. Lee ruled on Wednesday. The judge said that Nkosi Thandiwe, 23, is mentally competent and will faces felony murder and numerous other charges for his alleged actions during a July 15, 2011 shooting spree at the Proscenium building that left Brittany Watts dead and Lauren Garcia paralyzed.
