NRA Calls for "Armed Security" Around Schools

In a Friday press conference, the National Rifle Association broke its weeklong silence following the horrific shooting of 26 people at a school in Newtown, CT and called for a surge of gun-carrying "good guys" around American schools. Can We Make Metro Atlanta Schools Safer?

Patch Question of the Week: After Newtown, do you feel safe sending your kids to school?

It's the issue that's on many people's minds: could the horror that visited Newtown last week happen here? Are our schools safe from such violence? And what can we do - if anything at all - to make them safer? Metro Atlanta schools rushed to reassure parents that their systems are prepared in the event of an emergency. APS Superintendent Dr. Erroll Davis said city of Atlanta schools have implemented safety drills and other procedures that are designed to protect their students. Nonetheless, he asked parents to always remain vigilant and alert school officials if they see something suspicious.
