Atlanta Public Schools' administrators and principals gave an overview and answered questions Thursday night at Grady High School concerning where local schools stand regarding a variety of education-related issues.
In the First Annual State of the Grady Cluster Presentation, held at Grady High School on Thursday, February 7, 2013, parents and interested community members learned there is much to celebrate in the Grady Cluster of Atlanta Public Schools (APS). The Grady Cluster includes Grady High School, Inman Middle School, and the five “feeder” elementary schools: Centennial Place, Hope-Hill, Mary Lin, Morningside and Springdale Park. No. 1 on my celebration list, as a Grady parent, is the chart of SAT scores shared by Grady Principal Dr. Vincent Murray, indicating an overall increase in 2012 SAT scores, with Grady High School 2012 seniors scoring higher than the national average. Atlanta Public Schools high schools get full accreditation this week in this quick peek at Midtown school news you can use
Earlier this week, the high schools within the Atlanta Public Schools system, including Grady High, were restored to full accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The schools were placed on probation in early 2010 in the wake of the 2009 Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests cheating scandal involving APS educators. Infighting amongst the school board and issues with the “governance” within the district resulted in SACS placing the APS high schools on probation. In 2011, the district was moved to “accreditation with advisement” status. See here for more about what the full accreditation status means for the district. _______ Make plans to join the Grady community for a dine-out at Cameli's Pizza on Tuesday…

Each award includes $3,500 for a school project of the winner’s choice, $1,500 for a professional development opportunity to boost the educator’s effectiveness and a personal stipend of $2,500. The award is designed to retain excellent teachers and school leaders, inspire other educators, and raise public awareness about the work of high-performing educators. …

The 2012-13 APS school year begins Monday and Patch wants to see pictures as parents send their students off to school
It’s back to school today as the 2012-13 school year begins for most Atlanta Public Schools (APS) students on Monday, Aug. 6. Students attending year-round schools, such as Centennial Place Elementary, began on July 10. It could be a muggy and wet first day for students at Grady High, Inman Middle and Springdale Park Elementary school as there is a 60 percent chance of precipitation in the metro Atlanta area Monday. There’s much anew this year and you might want to look at the “I’m Going Back to School” video provided by the APS here. One change is the new Common Core of standardized academic standards for math, English and language arts that Georgia was one of 47 states to adopt. See the video for more info.
