Ansley Park’s Sally Bethea, the founding director of the westside-based Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK), joined legendary golfer and Swiss watchmaker Omega ambassador, Greg Norman, in helping cut the grand opening ribbon at the luxury brand's new boutique in Buckhead’s Phipps Plaza. While Norman was present at the Thursday evening affair, fellow Omega brand ambassadors including Michael Phelps, Nicole Kidman, Cindy Crawford, and Daniel Craig were not. But plenty of others were as among those also celebrating Omega’s first boutique in Georgia and its partnership with CRK were Laura Turner Seydel and Rutherford Seydel, who founded CRK in 1994. EPA Awards $50K To UCR To Expand Atlanta Neighborhood Water Watch

Under the grant, UCR will expand its Neighborhood Water Watch program in Atlanta's urban core to encompass 25 sites; teaching residents to conduct their own stream monitoring and develop a body of water-quality data in urban neighborhoods.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a $50,000 grant on Tuesday to the West Midtown-based Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (UCR) to expand the environmental group’s Neighborhood Water Watch program in Atlanta’s urban core. UCR, located at 916 Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, is one of just five recipients chosen in the Southeast and 46 nationally to receive grants totaling $2.7 million to help restore urban waters, support community revitalization and protect Americans’ health. “These grants support communities in their efforts to access, improve and benefit from their urban waters and the surrounding land,” said EPA Deputy Regional Administrator Stan Meiburg at a Tuesday ceremony. “By promoting access to urban waterways, EPA …

Campaign efforts will begin Memorial Day to help save the Chattahoochee River, listed as the one of the most endangered rivers in America.

SweetWater Brewing Company on the cusp of Midtown and Buckhead is gearing up once again for their 6th annual “Save the Hooch” conservation campaign in support of West Midtown's Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (UCR). Since joining forces with UCR in 2006, the efforts are now more important as ever as the river was just listed No. 3 on the nation’s top 10 most endangered rivers list by American Rivers.  SweetWater’s campaign efforts will begin Memorial Day weekend and continue through July 4, offering beer drinkers, bar patrons and residents of metro Atlanta the chance to “Give of Your Liver to Save the River” by visiting participating accounts and purchasing paper fish, commemorative t-shirts or SweetWater’s seasonal Waterkeeper ale. …

UCR responds to Chattahoochee's No. 3 ranking on 'most endangered' list

Costly new dams, reservoirs not the solution to Georgia’s water needs according to American Rivers and West Midtown's Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper.

American Rivers named the Chattahoochee River among America’s Most Endangered Rivers® Tuesday, shining a national spotlight on two boondoggle dam and reservoir proposals that are far too expensive and would harm water supplies, clean water, recreation opportunities, and fish and wildlife habitat. “The America’s Most Endangered Rivers report is a call to action to save rivers that are facing a critical tipping point,” said Jenny Hoffner of American Rivers in a news release. “We all need healthy rivers for our drinking water, health, economy, and quality of life. We hope citizens will join us to ensure a healthy Chattahoochee River and secure water supply for generations to come.” The Chattahoochee is threatened by the proposed Glades …
