Strong winds are expected to develop as a storm system and cold front move into the Midtown area on Wednesday. In effect 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, a wind advisory for north and central Georgia, warns of 15 to 25 mph winds with gusts up to 35 mph, which make driving difficult. "Showers and a few thunderstorms will accompany these winds, but it should be noted that very strong winds will be possible outside of any shower or thunderstorm activity as well," the advisory says. "Recent rains and the additional heavy rainfall anticipated from this system will allow for trees to be uprooted with greater ease." Atlanta and Midtown could get the first snow of the winter and 2013 on Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service. A strong low pressure system and ample Gulf moisture will meet, resulting in widespread rain and an associated deep cold air mass that will begin to spread across north and central Georgia on Thursday afternoon and evening, meteorologists say in a special weather statement issued Tuesday. As a result, rain could change over to snow across parts of north Georgia. Despite recent unseasonably warm temps, residents could see some light accumulations of snow by mid to late Thursday afternoon or evening, mainly on elevated and grassy surfaces. While folks as far south as a LaGrange-to-Athens line could see light snow…
