Cycling for a Cause

Upcoming Crank It Up party and Spin for Kids offer great chance to help Camp Twin Lakes

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been an avid cyclist. The benefits are significant: cycling keeps me in shape and is a fantastic stress reliever. This fall, though, I will hit the road not for myself but for the kids of Camp Twin Lakes. And I'm hoping you will consider doing the same? The seventh annual Spin for Kids will take place the weekend of Oct. 20-21 and will feature several beautiful road bike routes through Madison and Rutledge, Ga., for cyclists of all skill levels, as well as a mountain bike ride at Fort Yargo State Park. Riders will raise funds by getting sponsors to donate money to support their involvement in the ride. All of the donations will go to Camp Twin Lakes, a nonprofit organization that offers year-round therapeutic …

Tens of Thousands Attend Red Bull Soapbox

Zany, fun-filled event packs Midtown Saturday afternoon

An estimated 40,000 fans lined both sides of 10th Street and packed into Piedmont Park for the Red Bull Soapbox Race on Saturday afternoon. Pre-race choreographed dance routines and skits factored in the voting by the panel of judges, which including Atlanta City Councilman Alex Wan. The teams came from eight different states inclduing California, but The Nook on Piedmont Park, located at 1144 Piedmont Avenue, only had to travel a …

SweetWater tops in state, but Sublime tops in USA

Sublime Doughnuts named by one publication as America’s Best Bakery for 2012, while the SweetWater Brewing Company is tapped as one of the country's top craft brewing companies.

Mmmmm, beer and doughnuts... SweetWater Brewing Company, located at 195 Ottley Drive, was recognized Tuesday as one of the nation’s top craft brewing companies in the country. The Brewers Association, a not-for-profit trade group that tabulates production statistics for U.S. breweries, ranked SweetWater No. 24 in the nation based on 2011 beer sales volume. Congrats to the good folks at SweetWater, who will be celebrating all weekend long during their eighth Annual SweetWater 420 Fest (more on that in a moment). And while SweetWater was ranked the top craft brewing company in Georgia, another Midtown Patch establishment was named tops in the country. Sublime Doughnuts, located at 535 10th Street, has been tabbed as America’s Best Bakery of …
