ReplyIt will be great to have an on-site steward of this prominent piece of property again. Someone who will push CBS Outdoor Advertising to keep the MARTA shelter in front cleaned on a more regular basis. Keeping MARTA shelters cleaned is part of the contract CBS Advertising has with MARTA - this shelter probably needs to be cleaned daily to keep it presentable and usable for legitimate bus riders.

ReplyThe registration for the early shift from 6 p.m. til midnite is already filled - but more volunteers for the midnite til 6 a.m. shift are needed.
If you decide to sign up for this shift - list your group as the VaHi Safety Team and we can all go as a group from this part of the city. I'll be glad to drive to the meeting place at North Avenue Presbyterian - so let me know at jjonww2@earthlink.net if you have signed up and we'll travel there as a group. We already have two on our neighborhood team. -
On the article Still Need to Recycle Your Christmas Tree? Here's Where to Go

ReplyAs a board member of Keep Atlanta Beautiful, I was at the Midtown Home Depot store on Saturday, and was amazed at what was found in the pile of trees left before Saturday. There were trees that still had lights on them, as well as lots of wreaths constructed on wire frames and garland strung on either wire or plastic cording. These are all materials that cannot be run thru the chipping machines donated to the effort by Davey Tree. We removed the lights from those trees, but garland and wreaths just have to go into the dumpsters at Home Depot. There were also lots of trees with the plastic bags still on them - something else that had to be removed before chipping. The Midtown Home Depot store will continue accepting trees for chipping thru this Friday 1/11/2013 - but please be considerate to Home Depot and Davey Tree by taking the plastic bag off your tree and just throw wreaths and garland into your City of Atlanta trash bin. Keep Atlanta Beautiful needs the sponsorship of Home Depot and Davey Tree to continue this recycling program.

ReplyMy thanx to all of the CourtWatchers and victims from APD Zones 2, 5 and 6, who attended these two hearings. You were very definitely the eyes and ears in court representing your communities, and contributed to this sentence. The banishment clause in the sentence means that Echols can be arrested if seen in these neighborhoods after his release from prison, as that will be a violation of his probation.

ReplyVirginia Highland has a safe address package delivery program that has been operating for over 3 years now, and is an easy way to thwart these front porch thefts. Midtown residents are welcome to participate in this program also. http://vahi.patch.com/articles/make-sure-your-holiday-packages-don-t-get-nabbed-by-the-grinch

On the article Patch Poll: Atlanta City Council Gives Itself A Pay Raise

ReplyThis vote was ill-timed in that it should not have been brought up til the information is available as to the certainty of our being able to afford raises for other city employees. These figures are being worked on now and this council pay raise should have been part of a total salary adjustment package.

ReplyHere in Virginia Highland we have a safe address package delivery program that has been in practice for the past 3 years or so, and is such an easy way to thwart these front porch thefts. I agree with fullnelson's post that this will make Piedmont and Grant Parks wide-open territory for snatch and grab thieves. People who are using their laptops, tablets, etc will not be paying attention to their surroundings and will be sitting ducks for thievery.
