12 Cars Broken Into at Apartment Complex

Police are asking for the public's help in a string of recent car break-ins.

Atlanta police say around 30 cars were broken into over the weekend.

Many of the incidents occurred in the back parking lot of the Monroe Place Apartments off Monroe Drive (see map).

Sunday morning, police found 12 cars with shattered windows in the parking lot, according to an incident report (see PDF).

There were no witnesses to the crime, according to the incident report. Fingerprints could not be lifted from the scene. Police said the apartment complex has security cameras at the front gate but not in the back parking lot.

Atlanta police sent out a statement Monday from Major Robert Browning about the string of car break-ins over the weekend.

Browning asked for the public's help as police investigate the recent crimes.

"We are asking residents not to leave anything of value in their vehicles," Browning said.

"In these incidents, IPods, purses, laptops and various other items were in plain view. If items must be left in the vehicle, please place them in the trunk -- out of sight."
