Sunday Funday Right Down Peachtree

'Atlanta Streets Alive' event in Midtown transformed the city's signature street into a safe place for people to bike, walk, run, dance and skate for fun, fitness and transportation.

Mother Nature looked like she wasn’t going to cooperate on Sunday, but to the delight of thousands the rain stopped just before the start of the afternoon’s Atlanta Streets Alive event in Midtown and downtown Atlanta.

For four hours (2-6 p.m.), nearly three miles of Peachtree Street was open to the public as no gasoline-engines were allowed. There were lots and lots of bikers, plus skateboarders, dancers, joggers, roller skaters and many others just strolling through the heart of Midtown

The vision of Atlanta Streets Alive continues to encourage Atlanta to develop living streets — streets that appeal to pedestrians, bikers, businesses and neighbors. Streets are publicly owned assets but on most days are used mainly by cars. On Sunday, people regained ownership of Peachtree Street — which they pay taxes to build and maintain — and transformed it into a crazy fun, healthy, living street for all to enjoy.

Did you attend? What did you think about the event? And by all means, share your pictures along with your comments, too!
