News Nearby: Giant Ferris Wheel, SkyView Atlanta, Now Open - Photos and more

Mayor Kasim Reed and other local city leaders were in attendance on Tuesday, July 16th to cut the ribbon and officially open Atlanta's newest downtown attraction, SkyView.

The 20-story high ferris wheel towers over the parking lot adjacent to The Tabernacle and overlooks the entire city.  SkyView has 42 gondolas that hold up to 6 people, with a views stretching from Buckhead to Stone Mountain on a clear day.

According to  Mayor Reed, this is just another example of the amazing attractions Downtown Atlanta now has to offer.

For those of us that have been on the London Eye, this ferris wheel is much shorter and holds many less people, but the overall experience will be much the same. There are cameras at a certain point so riders can take home a souvenir from their sky ride.

According to 11ALive.com, "if you park in the Luckie Street lot there's a discounted rate with the purchase of a Ferris wheel ticket."

Hours of operation are 10 a.m. until 11 p.m.
