Police Shoot Man Involved in Parking Lot Fight Outside Midtown Club

A fight in a parking lot near the Opera has left one man in critical condition and two off-duty Atlanta police officers on administrative leave.

APD spokesperson Lynn Gregory said the officers were working at the club when a large group of people began arguing on 13th Street near Crescent Avenue.

"One of those individuals brandished a handgun," Gregory said. "Witnesses confirmed the officers gave that individual several verbal commands to drop the weapon. The individual, however, did not comply and turned on the officers.

"Rounds were fired and the subject was struck at least one time."

The man was transported to Grady Hospital in critical condition. The officers were not injured and have been placed on administrative leave until the investigation is concluded.
